12-12-2018 (Wednesday) At Sea. Attended talk on The History of the Panama Canal and two movies: "A Man, A Plan, A Canal." and "American Experience: Panama Canal". Otherwise, just hung out and ate!
It has taken a long time to figure out the new blog settings but I think I have it now! We will be leaving here on December 2nd to Birmingham airport; we'll board a Delta Airlines plane bound for San Diego, CA with a stopover in Atlanta, GA. We are traveling with David & Debbie Droste, friends from our church. We will be spending the night of the 2nd in San Diego; the cruise actually departs @ 5pm on the 3rd. We have the cruise and airline reservations. We are going over to the Droste's to determine how much luggage we can get into the trunk of my '89 Lincoln Town Car since it had and still has the largest amount of trunk space of any large car (excluding SUVs). We will be driving my car to Birmingham and leaving it while on our cruise. I will not be taking a laptop this trip. Due to luggage space limits, I'll take my Samsung tablet. I will not be able to publish daily posts because we will not have internet while on the ship or during out stopovers; there ...
12-2-2018 Days Inn BIG Issue 8:50 PM. All went well with our trip to Birmingham Airport, Atlanta Airport, and San Diego Airport. Then, the trouble began! @8:50 PM, after we landed in San Diego and retrieved our luggage, I called the Days Inn & Suites San Diego Near Sea World, 3350 Rosecrans St, San Diego, CA 92110, (619) 224-9800 . It took a few minutes to reach them because the first time I called, no one answered. Finally, after calling several times, including a number David Droste had, Johnathan answered. I told him we were at the airport and ready to be picked up; he informed me that the last shuttle left @ 9:00 PM (Note that this time is actually 10 minutes in the future!) and that we would have to get our own transportation! I told him I had not been told anything about shuttle times, only to call when we arrive and someone would pick us up. (Note: I did not know it at the time, but he was the one I talked to when I made the reservations on O...
12-18-2018 (Tuesday) Fort Lauderdale Florida. Back to reality; the days of being pampered by a great cabin steward (Sahal), Lido deck server (Ittata), Lido deck speciality chef (Neil) and main dining room servers (Herman & Agust) are over! All went smoothly with debarkation, transfer to the Ft Lauderdale Airport and through check-in at the airport. I did have an open bottle of water that I forgot to empty before going through the TSA checkpoint so they took it. We had about a three hour wait for our flight so Jenny got in some walking. Delta checked our second carry-on to Birmingham for free to lighten the load for the overhead compartments. On the way home, this side of Birmingham, we had Town Car issues! The petcock to drain the radiator blew out. We were on the Interstate but luckily near an exit where we found an O'Reilly Auto Parts store. They did not have the part we needed, nor did any other in the area; all the radiator repair sh...
